"Promises" Returns to Broadway
Congratulations to Burt and Hal David and playwright Neil Simon on the revival of their musical "Promises, Promises" with opening night on April 25. The opening night reviews were all two thumbs up. The cast stars Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes.
"Promises" debuted in 1968 and ran until 1972. It was nominated for eight Tony awards, winning for Best Actor in a Musical (Jerry Orbach) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Marian Mercer). The original cast recording was honored with a Grammy Award in 1969. (New York Theater Guide)
Sean plays Chuck Baxter, the role created by Jerry Orbach and Kristin portrays Fran Kubelik who was originally played by Jill O'Hara. One change to this revival is the addition of "I Say a Little Prayer for You" in the first act. The show is running at Broadway Theater and tickets are on sale now.
Several theater websites are reporting that if the Broadway show is a success, London's West End will mount a large-scale production there with the inclusion of even more Bacharach and David hit songs.
