Herb Alpert asked Luis Angel to record for A&M Records after hearing a tape of his music. Angel had written about 200 songs before being signed to A&M. Half of those songs had been recorded by other artists.
The Amar A Muerte album took two months to record. It was released in the U.S. Latin market, Latin America and Europe. There were plans to record half of the album in Italian for Europe but these recordings were never released.
