The single "Ballad of Hollywood/Hi Lonesome!" was rated as having four-star potential by Billboard on June 29, 1963. However, it was a one-off recording as Rod McKuen was signed to another label where he released an album the same year. He promoted the single during appearances at the Goya Folk Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 1963.
