A&M Records producer Larry Marks learned about Lee Michaels from Michaels' fans. Marks went to San Francisco to hear Lee and wanted to meet with Lee to discuss signing him to A&M Records. Michaels, however, missed the appointment. A year later he went to A&M and asked to see Marks. He signed in 1967. In 1968, A&M signed him to a producer's contract.

Lee Michaels left A&M Records in mid-1973.
