A&M RECORDS CANADA LABELS, LINERS AND SLEEVES
AUDIOPHILE ALBUMS
In December 1978, A&M Records Canada launched the Audiophile Series. These vinyl albums used the original 2 track master tapes to create a half-speed master directly onto the lacquer at 16 2/3 RPM rather than 33 1/3 RPM that was an exact replica of the master tape. This process meant it took twice as long to transfer the musical information from the tape to the lacquer resulting in higher accuracy, better sound with less distortion and better high frequency separation. "Supervinyl" was used for its dust resistance and anti-static qualities.
